From the supplier: The Smithsonian Institution's National Airand Space Museum planned to commemmorate the first destructive use of the atomic bomb with an exhibit of the Enola Gay. The original plan was to reflect new historical knowledge that the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings were not the only alternatives open to Harry Truman to end the Pacific War. However, the museum was forced to put up a neutral exhibit because of opposition from the Air Force Assn. and the American Legion. Media coverage of the debates over the tone of the exhibit largely ignored the underlying historical issues.
